[comp.periphs.scsi] Priam 738 jumper settings

dlb25@LOCAL.UUCP (Dave Besselievre) (04/30/91)

I have purchased a Praim 738 Disk drive (330MB) to use on a Future Domain
TMC-885 SCSI controller. There was no documentation with the drive. Can
anyone please tell me what the jumper seting on the drive are.

The bottom of the drive has three jumpers.

	W6	was jumpper when received
	w5	not connected
W4	No jumper pins (not connected)
W3	Near terminator resistor pack (not installed)
		resistor pack also not installed.
W1	no jumper pins (not installed)

10 jumper pairs next to SCSI connector.

	scsi connector . . . . . . . . . .
			  . . . . . . . . . .

			              ^ |---|
		                      | SCSI adr.
                                      ---Motor control ?

The motor control jumper seem to be the correct definition for the fourth
set of pins, since if jumper the motor spins up on power up. Can anyone
provide further details on the pins or better yet know the correct jumper
setting for this controller.

Thank you for you help.

I just happen to have that for you.

Be advised, however that my experience with these drives has been horribly
negative. There is some very obscure bug which prevents some UNIX systems
from properly formatting the last slice, or partition if you will.

I don't know if it's true for ALL unix's but it's true for Motorola's
SYS V rev 3 and it's true for Tektronix's UTek 2.3 BSD 4.2+. So that's
2 for 2 of the ones I've tested it on. I have worked around that by
partitioning the drive with a small final partition, and making it a
swap partition. Don't try to build a file system in it!!! Now for your
jumper settings.

Open = Soft SCSI bus reset [factory default]
Closed = Hard SCSI bus reset

Auto sequence up delay [factory default - installed]
