This morning, my 386/25 machine (Adaptec 1542b, 3 scsi disks, 1 tape) was hung, with the following message on the console: WARNING: AHA: mailbox-in not found I was able to type a username at the console (and virtual consoles), but got no response. A forced cold boot was required. What does this error mean, and what would cause it? The machine is running Esix Rev D. If you simply need more mailboxes, you may be able to increase the number allocated. I don't know about Esix, but with ISC Unix this number is AHA_NUM_MBOX which is defined in /usr/include/sys/aha1540.h. Ken Mitchum KY3B km@cs.pitt.edu

Increasing the number of mailboxes will not help as there are an equal number of MBI's and MOB's. If the MBO was found there has to be an equivalent MBI. This would be best addressed by Everex. Someone else suggested a bad memory chip on the 1542b. Is this possible in this situation? I haven't seen the error again (fingers crossed, knock on wood, and all that...) -- bill@unixland.uucp The Think_Tank BBS & Public Access Unix ...!uunet!think!unixland!bill ..!{uunet,bloom-beacon,esegue}!world!unixland!bill 508-655-3848 (2400) 508-651-8723 (9600-HST) 508-651-8733 (9600-PEP-V32)
