The manual for my Adaptec 1522 gives the telephone number, baud rate, parity and stop bit settings of Adaptec's BBS. (2400,N,8,1) Being in the market for SCSI tape control software, I tried calling their BBS to see if I could find any pointers to packages, or at least get a copy of Roy Neese's acclaimed SCSICNTL.EXE while I was up there. When I connect (using Telix 3.12A and an external Supramodem 2400) using the indicated settings, all I get is 15 or so garbage chars that look like a parity problem, and then within 3 or so seconds the callee end hangs up. I've tried several times (mostly in the evenings) and with several other baud/parity/word/stop combinations but have yet to achieve anything but different junk chars. Has anybody out there managed to talk to Adaptec's BBS? What were your settings and did you need to play any tricks to get both ends talking? Thanks much, Brad P.S. Any leads on SCSI tape control software would be greatly appreciated. Is SYTOS the *only* game in town? If so, what is the current version? Has anybody come up with a DOS device driver so that backup packages like PC TOOLS can use the SCSI tape? I suppose I could write one, but I'm finding it hard to believe that I'm the first one to want to do this. Thanks again for any pointers, comments or even sympathy. _________ Random drivel from the keyboard of: | |.| Brad Davis, GSS Inc, Beaverton OR | bradd |:| bradd@gssc (503) 671-8431 ___|_______|_|___ _________ Disclaimer: The boss disavows |[]gssc| _-_ _-_ | @|#########| all knowledge of my actions. |______|__________|@@@@ +---------+
