[comp.periphs.scsi] Help needed on Adaptec 1522 controller

dlb25@LOCAL.UUCP (Dave Besselievre) (06/12/91)

I just purchased an Adaptec 1522 SCSI disk Board from a local Computer store
that was cleaning out there back room. There was no documentation or software
with the controller since it had been lost.

I have now found out what the jumpper setting on the card are and have configured the system to factory defaults.

	J5: 2,5,6 on
	J6: 1,2,3,5,8 on
	J7: 1,2,8 on
	J8: 4 on
	J9: 2,6,7,8 on

I can now access the hard drive I am testing the board on (ST-4051N) and
transfer and store files. But I cannot get the board to boot from the disk.
I have formated the drive using format c:/s command and the files are on the
disk. But when I boot from the hard drive I get the following message.

	Missing operating system

and the system hangs.

I have further tryied to fdisk the SCSI disk and I get the following error:

	Error reading fixed disk

I have not low level formated this disk under the Adaptec controller since I do not have the manual and do no know the BIOS entry pointer for the onboard
utilities.

Does anyone know the onboard entry points for the utilities and the diags.
They are not the same as the 154x series boards (ie, dc00:6 and dc00:9, I
have tried these).

Further, do you know where I can obtain the system drivers for this board on
from an ftp site if possible. I would like to hock up more than two disk drives
to the controller.

Thank you for your help.

Dave Besselievre
