[comp.periphs.scsi] BIG drives under DOS: Any Gotchas?

shiva@well.sf.ca.us (Kenneth Porter) (06/14/91)

What hazards should I expect in connecting a 1.2 Gb drive to a
DOS box with a 1542b controller? Do I need to do any
pre-configuring before DOS sees it or do I need to use a
special driver?

P.S. This will be a Fuji 2266 under MSDOS 5.0.

The only gotcha is,....the translation scheme used by the adapter.
64 heads * 32 sectors * 1024 = 1.0GB (2^13). As long as the formatted
capacity is less than this, the adapter is happy. If the capacity is
over this, the adapter will simply report 1024 cylinders to DOS and DOS
will only use 1.0GB of the available space.
