We have been using MDI's SCSI Express software for both MS-DOS and OS2 with future domain and adaptec adapters to control Panasonic 5010 worm drives for about a year now and aren't entirely happy with their disk organization. It seems to be popular to make worm drives 'look like' magnetic drives even though the most appropriate application for a worm drive is for archival storage. They are, after all, 'write once' and not erasable magnetic storage! Corel seems to use the same basic approach as MDI which results in considerable overhead although they do have some other advantages, like a well documented interface to the scsi bus itself. Optisys takes a different approach and has their own file system but our initial experience with Optisys found it to be buggy. That was well over a year ago though so things might be better now. I was wondering if anyone else out there is using these products, what your experience has been, and what your opinions are. If there are other products that I'm not aware of, I'd like to hear about those too. Of course I'd be glad to summarize to the net if there's sufficient interest. -- Hardy J.
