Does such a thing exist as a SCSI extender for increasing the length of 
the SCSI bus?  If so does it work?

1) Yup.
	Laser Link II from Applied Concepts 619-453-0090
	goes up to 1 km via dual mode fiber.
	They also have a cheaper version that doubles the 
	length of a single ended SCSI bus.
2) Don't know yet.  Got mine today and I am getting
	parity errors to a disk.  Their tech support hasn't
	called back yet...
