I have a general question for the net. I am manager of product development here and am contemplating the creation of both a 386 and OS/2 version of my product. My question is: how much does it cost to set up a development environment for each of these two scenarios? What i'm interested in is the cost of the software and reference materials. Based on what i've seen thus far, developing under 386 extended would cost several thousand dollars, excluding the runtime rights. I figure that OS/2 cannot be cheap either. Are there any good pointers to discussions on the cost of development under these environments? We are currently developing only for DOS. We are using the latest versions of RT/Link and Microsoft C with PVCS under NFS. Our machines are compaq 386/33 with severl megs of ram and 80 meg hd. I am worried that trying to develop OS/2 applications while trying to maintain DOS applications will be a very difficult proposition if carried out on the same machine. It seems to me that separate equipment will be required for the OS/2 effort or else an inordinate amount of time will be lost "shifting" between environments when trying to develop and support both at the same time. Lastly, does anyone have recommendations for the minimum amount of RAM needed to develop under OS/2? If the responses are strong, I am willing to summarize them back to the net. Thank's
