I am looking for a programmer familiar with text/graphic windowing
systems to port a graphic front end for my version of Empire to PC format
from Amiga format. Bringing in the windowing should not be difficult if
you chose to bring it to a similar system, such as OS/2 windows. If you
were also able to port the REXX portion of the code, that would be even
better. I would ideally like to support bit mapped graphics, the same as on
the Amiga version, but realizing the limitations of the PC's graphics
when in CGA mode, supporting B/W or color text windows would also
be acceptable.
If you are interested in helping me convert the front end, please
reply by email. As far as I know, this version of Empire is the ONLY
multi-player version to have all the features of the Unix version, with
added features such as player-player chat, multi-player CB, and support
for as many serial ports as are available (currently 32 is the highest I
have seen). Having a nice front-end available would certainly increase the
number of players who are new to this type of game.
Here is a general list of features present in the version I want ported:
1) Scrollable, resizable, dragable windows for the terminal emulation,
maps, and census reports.
2) Automatic display of sectors that are double-clicked on in the
map window in the census window, including any ships that are
known to be in the sector.
3) Sending the square coord block by clicking in one of the corner
sectors and double-clicking or shift-clicking in the other
sector.
4) Use of REXX to provide a full scripting language. Allows front-end
to call Empire host at night, execute commands, store results,
execute other commands based on the results of previous commands,
and hang up unattended. Also allows you to run complex macros
while online to do repetitive actions, etc.
