What are my options if I want to add portable sound to a game program that would run on a PC without additional hardware? By portable, I mean that it would run on different types of machines at different clock speeds, but would still sound the same. By "without additional hardware", I mean that I don't want to add an additional card that would have sound generation circuitry on it. Am I limited to modifying the ^G bell character? Does this involve tweaking the timer chip? Will I have to use (gag) assembly? Pointers to book, articles, source code, PD/shareware libraries are all appreciated! Thanks, in advance.
