Right now I have all articles going to one disk. What I want to do (actually management wants it) is create a second article disk for holding .ALT, .SOC, and .REC. That way when people invoke netnews they don't have to see these "offensive" news groups...but if the know the magic incantation and have the right execs then presto they can see everything. Is there an easy way of doing this without wiping out my current article disk and starting over? Can I just change NETNEWS GROUPS so that new articles go to the new disk? What will happen to the existing articles on the other disk? Is there an easy way to move the ALT REC SOC groups to the other disk?

I haven't done this myself, but if I were going to do it, here is what I would do: Move each VLIB and GROUP file, change the addresses in NETNEWS GROUPS, and cross your fingers. There will be problems when an article was cross posted, say to comp.something and alt.something. There would be just 1 copy of the article actually saved. The worst that will happen in these cases is user will get the msg "Sorry, this article cannot be displayed". Let me know how it works out.

Is there an easy way >of doing this without wiping out my current article disk and starting over? just move the GroupNum GROUP and GroupNum VLIB to the new disk and change the entry in your NETNEWS GROUPS to the new disk address (and in your CONFIG to re-direct new groups to the new disk) I had to do this several times (i couldn't get one big disk - we now run with 5 disks, 4 public, 1 private) its fun trying to balance the load among them *sigh* /Paul
