A belated explanation of the new ut.dcs.* news groups that you may have noticed appearing recently on a computer near you. (I had intended to post this message BEFORE the new news groups were created, but a system hack installed them before we were ready). The intent of the new newsgroups (originally proposed by Ric Hehner) is to provide electronic dissemination of announcements of seminars, and meetings within the Department of Computer Science at the University of Toronto. The hope is that these electronic announcements will replace many of the printed notices that the Department has been distributing. The news groups are organized more or less along the lines of the current Departmental seminar and colloquium series. In addition the existing news group gradnews has become ut.dcs.gradnews. The new Departmental news groups are: ut.dcs.general general announcements and discussions of interest to members of the department. Includes announcements for Departmental Colloquia. It is recommended that everyone subscribe to this news group. ut.dcs.ai Artificial Intelligence seminar announcements and related discussions. ut.dcs.cscw Computer Supported Cooperative Work seminars and related discussions. ut.dcs.db Data Base seminar announcements and related discussions. ut.dcs.gradnews Announcements of interest to graduate students. ut.dcs.graphics Graphics seminars and related discussions. ut.dcs.hci Human Computer Interaction seminars and related discussions. ut.dcs.na Numerical Analysis seminars and related discussions. ut.dcs.systems Systems seminars and related discussions. ut.dcs.theory Theory seminars and related discussions. ut.dcs.vision Vision seminars and related discussions.
