The Department of Geography at The Ohio State University distributes OSU MAP-for-the-PC which is now used at nearly 150 colleges and universities. It requires a PC with EGA/VGA color or a Hercules monochrome graphics unit and a hard disk -- a math co-processor is helpful. The current distribution kit consists of the program, a number of utility programs, eleven sample databases and about 250 pages of documentation. For academic use the cost is $90 or $75 if a check accompanies the order. You are permited to make as many copies as you wish of the software, databases and documention for use at your institution. You may give these copies away or charge no more than the cost of reproduction. The original MAP program was created by Dr. Dana Tomlin (now of the OSU School of Natural REsources and Dept. of Geography) and is a grid-cell GIS. The large version of the program will handle up to 50K cells while the smaller will handle 20K (the smaller uses less memory). Full information and ordering instructions may be obtained upon request to: MARBLE@MAPVXA.CFM.OHIO-STATE.EDU

Hello, at our institute we are interested in a geographical information system. We have some IBM PC (AT and the best one a PS2 Model 80). What GIS for the PC are available, how much do they cost, are there serious limitations for the PC software ? Thank You in advance Rudolf Willing
