>Ideally, we would like to identify the unique role that a meeting jointly >sponsored by the five diverse societies should play. What could be done >at such a meeting, more readily or effectively than at the individual >society meetings? And, how should or could that be achieved? Standardization of GIS's, at least as a view of an actual analyst, seems to be quite needed. GIS's are too much project oriented and/or `one-shot' in split governmental agencies, which are eventually fragmentary with a short life. Moreover, geographical data features do not usually suit the present relational database table structures, as has given complicated command syntax and in particular, two DBMS's in one information system. Thus i should think it is the very chance that joint GIS/LIS bring a fruitful outcome through the trans-disciplinary discussions.
