Until Masscomp (oops, Concurrent (:-) permits dump to remote devices, I can recommend gnutar. It has been used to do full and incremental backups to anything from 1/4" carts, 1/2" tape, to 8mm Video, on a number of client machines. It comes with '/etc/rmt' - a network driver for manipulating remote tapes via a protocol like SMTP - that is the part that has to be installed on (should come with BSD systems) the machine you wish to borrow the tape from. If you are doing backups as root, the syntax permits you to access the remote drive as "user@host:/dev/rst0" so you don't need rsh privileges as root on the remote machine. Gnutar is available from direct from the Gnu project, as well as uunet.uu.net and other archive sites. Send me mail if you can't get a copy - I'll be glad to do what ever I can to help.
