I have a unix masscomp computer with fortran compiler f77 vers 1.3 After having no success in getting a block data statement to work, I finally typed in the test program given in the masscomp fortran manual which demonstrated the use of a block data statement. The test proram gave a compiler warning 'multiple declaration error'. The executable program generated by the example program given in the masscomp manual crashed. Is anyone aware of the fact that masscomp is putting a test program in the manuals which actually doesnt work? Is ther an upgrade of the version 1.3 fortran compiler that corrects for this bug? I found that the identical test program did in fact run correctly on a SUN4/360 computer. The test program also worked on the masscomp itself when the main program and block data subprogram were separated into two separate files, and compiled the two files concurrently. But the example program demonstrating a block data statement is given in the masscomp manual in a single file. I would appreciate advice on how I could actually get a block data statement to work without having to split up my programs into more than one file.
