A plausible assump[tion based on limited knowledge of Soviet revolutionary history: According to Marx, history inevitably progresses from feudalism to capitalism to socialism to full Communism (you want chapter and verse? Find another pedant!) I don't KNOW whether there was a communist party in Russia--or anywhere else; remember all the revolutionary parties in Germany at the time--before the revolution, but with the minroity militants having to become Bolshviks ("the majority") in order to win a power struggle with the majority Mensheviks (the minority) it SEEMS entirely plausible that the Bolshivks also seized the label Communist to help them out in this powerstruggle. Obviously if Communism is a higher stage of history than socialism, the Mensheviks, left Social Revolutionaries, not to mention anarachists, etc HAD BETTER give ground to Vlad and his pals.... If someone thinks I am VIOLENTLY distorting history, please flame about it and I will go to the library and look oup more gory details. Dorene "Hey I don't write history I just report it" Cornwell
