[bit.listserv.emusic-l] Korg WS and Music Trades Mag

Some folks asked that I do some typing...so here it is from the Feb. 1990
Music Trades Magazine.

"The WS Wavestation Synthesizer, the first offering from the Korg R&D Group
in San Jose, has been unveiled. Announced in April of 1989, the aquisition
of the engineering group, comprised mainly
of former Sequential Circuits personnel,
including founder Dave Smith, has already produced a fruitful relationship.

The first new product introduced by the R&D center is the WS unit, which
incorporates 32 voice, 16 bit Digital Vector Synthesis. This type of
synthesis was originally developed by Sequential Circuits for the Prophet VS
synthesizer.

Over 500 multi-sampled waveforms and sounds are included and can be linked
together into user-programmable Wave Sequences for new and unusual effects.
Dual programmable stereo multi-effects, 240 X 64 pixel graphics LCD, and RAM
and ROM card ports are all included.
There are also joystick and wheel controllers,
as well as a 61-key, velocity and pressure sensitive keyboard."

Thats all I know, because thats all they printed. The picture of the
keyboard is sort of washed out, and it is hard to see any detail, but
it looks typical with 2 wheel controllers, and then above the
keyboard a front panel with 1 X/Y joystick, a data slider, a large
LCD with various buttons, and other buttons and a keypad.

The phone number for Music Trades is 201-871-1965...but you have to qualify
for a subscription...I don't know what is involved, but my work as a sometime
consultant to midi software companies seemed to do it for me...

What, no disk drive, no sequencer, no drum samples? Geez, it's doomed.

PS. Courtesy of Nick Rothwell, I just read two reviews in UK rags on the
Waldorf MicroWave. I'm sorry, people, it really does make everything
since (and possibly inculding) the Prophet VS look pretty lame....

And Wine Country will be distributing them!
