<not DDT, adb, perhaps?> I thought the source of "Hacker" was sarcasm. In the same way that the "Moral Majority" is composed of *less* people than the 'immoral minority', those who have been labeled "Hackers" have the patience to spend, literally, *DAYS* at a terminal working on glitches *WITHOUT* taking an axe and hacking away at the terminal. (I can't believe I had that thought!) Personally, I would never use "Hacker" to describe the (possible term for media use) "Modem Muggers" (!) that have been in the news lately. Oh, and one final note about the outside media. On the cover of Newsweek a while ago (at least I think it was Newsweek), there was a picture of a TRS-80 Model II and a DC-1 modem. The inside story was of a group (414's?) who had supposedly left the system to call thousands of numbers and record ones with carriers or some such scheme. That modem *WON'T* do what is needed for this type of activity. It is a direct connect modem, but one dials manually, then turns on the modem and hangs up the phone. If they are going to put such things on their covers, could they at least get it correct? Colin Pye (I think that I calculate that I think, therefore I calculate that I think that I am, I think!)
