[bit.listserv.allmusic] Billie Holiday CDs

UUCJEFF@ECNCDC.BITNET (jeff beer) (02/04/90)

To Rando,
You asked about Billy Holiday CDs, if you are talking about the Compact
Jazz series, I have two of those, not of Billy Holiday, but of Astrud
Gilberto and Stan Getz. I cannot compare them to the original analog
disks or the original CDs. But they sound less than awesome, but passable.
But as for Billie Holiday, I have the Silver Collection on Verve, which
is the same company as the Compact Jazz series. The sound on the Silver
is awesome, especially considering the recordings were made in the 50s.
They sound as if they were recorded in the early 70s.

Jeff Beer. ( The Yamaha Corporation has asked me to announce that I
              play Schilke trumpets )

Schilke trumpets! Hey, dems are nice trumpets!

I have an Olds Ambassador I think... Crappy. Gotta get a new one.

Yah, I have no complaints with Schilke. I might look at getting a Monette
this year, they are also made in Chicago, and are a real top end trumpet.
I also use a Courtois cornet which is super. Their flugelhorns are also
the best.

Olds Ambassador, arent they more or less a student model? If you play trumpet
a lot, sure, get a new one. But if you play less than Lyle Mays, it should
be ok.

Me play trumpet? I took it as an music ed class. Had to take it. Anyway, I
got an A in the class. I had a range better than the professor. From the low
F# to a high G. 4 ledger lines G. Well, that was on a good day. I hit it twice
in about 3 years. I can do the E pretty solid though.
