[bit.listserv.allmusic] Beatles 'Rarities'

ROBINSHG%WWPS%dupont.com@RELAY.CS.NET (Herb Robinson, III) (02/06/90)

The LP "Rarities" is not available on CD, but all of the songs on it
(plus a bunch of others) are available on two discs called "Original
Masters" or something like that (I know that that is a Tull title, but it's
something close to that). The deal is that all of the Beatles CD's are in
their "British" format, that is, just like they were originally released in
England. If you have any of the earlier Beatles CD's (like pre-Pepper) AND
the LP's, you might notice that the CD's contain a couple of songs each that
weren't on the albums. See, Capitol played this nifty trick: they left a
few songs off of each Beatles album (in the U.S. only), and after a while
they had enough tunes for a "new" album. That's why you'll never see
"Yesterday and Today" on CD either. Historical sidenote: Supposedly,
this procedure pissed the Beatles off royally, which is why, when Capitol
asked them for a picture for the sleeve of their "new" album ("Yesterday and
Today"), they came up with the "Butcher Block" cover.

Anyway, you can get all of the "Rarities" tunes on those two discs.
I still can't remember the name they gave them, but one has a white cover
with the Beatles logo (the one that was always on Ringo's bass drum) in
black, and the other has a black cover with the logo in white. They are
labeled Vol. I and II, so you really can't miss them if they have them in
you local shop.

Herb the (Aw, come on, you know!)

P.S. (for Drummer, more than anyone else, I guess): I watched "Caveman"
this weekend. I don't feel qualified to comment on Ringo's drumming, but,
Man, he sure can't act....

    Those Beatles special CDs are called, I believe, "Past Masters";
Volumes I and II are available. And of course at most import and
such record stores there are plenty of import or bootleg Beatles
CDs...

Ringo, he's a better acter than he is a drummer.

(Note: Paul didn't bring him on HIS tour...)
