Being a classically trained (and contemporary trained) percussionist, I think
I might be able to help you guys with this one.
The "closed" or "buzzed" roll differs greatly from an "open" or "rudimentary"
roll. A good open roll will sound like someone doing sixteenth notes
really-really fast. The closed roll will sound much like a humming bee in
that it will "buzz."
Curious as to how many drummers are on this list. Is there a drummer/perc.
listserv around someplace? Or do we have to make-do with ALLMUSIC ? :)
