Well, Glen Gould took a lot of heat for his stuff on Bach Goldberg, letting alone his Beethoven performances. Nadia Sallerno-Sollenberg (spell) gets harassed for her stage manners, she really gets down when she plays and it looks like she is having a heart attack when she plays, (yet she is one of the few classical violinist who can make a boring piece sound interesting, it is hard to make Bach sound boring, but there are tons of later pieces which are boring). A classical flute player ( Mark Sackman, where are you? ) once told me that classical pieces should not be considered archeological digs, but then proceeds to criticize everyone's mother for not interpretting it "right". A favorite remark of a cello playing friend was "Bach lived in the wrong period" And then there is Wynton getting down on his own brother for playing with Stink because it "dilutes" or "makes unpure" the art of jazz. excuse me, I have to go to the bathroom.... Jeff Beer ( some people think you need drums, but everyone has to have there own drummer inside their ears....)
