By-tor: I know where you're coming (no pun intended) from Re: "La Villa Strangiato"... I think Rush closed 3 out of the 5 shows I saw with that one. It's a great climax (again, no pun) to a great show. And... I can *still* play it (but I need to work on the lead parts some more)! Also, not trying to sound like a Jeff Berlin expert, but Allan Holdsworth did not play on _Champion_. I'm not sure who the guitarist was on that one, but it wasn't Holdsworth... and I don't think it was Frank Gambale, who played on his 2nd album, _Pump It!_, either. I've loaned _Champion_ to someone, so I'm as lost as anyone. But at any rate, Peart's samba on that one tune "Marabi", is (I'm sad to say) pretty terrible. Speaking of Holdsworth (watch close, guys... this is a two-parter!)... 1) Drummer: Any new scoops on the Holdsworth and Weckl and/or Colaiuta project? 2) Grutz: Chad Wackerman was playing with Holdsworth back in '85-'86, on his solo albums _Metal Fatigue_ , and _Atavachron_ . Speaking of _Atavachron_ , does anyone know where this album got its name from (and Rando... hold thy tongue/fingers...!)??? By the way, Grutz... glad you made it aboard on the Allmusic express... your views and opinions are in my opinion a most welcome addition. "A most fascinating device..." "n.n."

Ugh, I hate this job. Nothing new on the Holdsworth thing. I have to check the new Modern Drummer. They give you all the happenings with the drummers today. So, I will check there... I am also still looking to see if Bruford will tour or not. - Drummer -

Well, ok, I'd forgotten whether Holdsworth plays on the title track, which Peart is also given credit for, but he does play on the album in places. Technicalities, technicalities. However, on the "Marabi" tune, isn't Steve Smith also given credit for the drum work? Who played which parts? I've tried to keep up with a samba beat on bass, and it's no easy task; it's got to be hell on the drummer. I've found a new appreciation for Chuck Mangione and Santana. n.n., if I get inspired, I'll try to wade through "La Villa Strangiato" and let you know if it ever goes anywhere. Geddy's one longer solo break is going to be a mess. By-tor

The Atavachron? Hmmm... judging from my woefully poor memory, as well as what I remember of the album cover, it was from a Star Trek episode; it was a sort of time machine that could send people back to any given era in a certain planet's history. The keeper of the machine, who was almost a librarian in nature (organizing the dif- ferent eras, etc.) was Mr. Atoz (get the pun? =) )... It was an interesting episode, from what I remember; Kirk got stuck in a Victorian England-type era and got branded as a witch for talking (via communication device) to a "spirit" named Bones =). Also, Spock went back to an ice age and, thanks to a telepathic bond with the Vulcans of that time, gave his emotions some leeway. Well. Anyway. -- Mark
