Take a look at the age of Peart.  Then take a look at the age of Louie
Belson.  Then, look at the age of Gregg Bissonette.... These guys
have been playing for a long time, and all are respected drummers
in their own class...  I don't admire Peart because he "plays in RUSH."
I don't admire Steve Gadd because he played with Stuff, either...
All these guys have shown to be technically capable to play the sn*t
out of their drums when behind them. (and in Bisosonettes case, even
on TOP of them.. :)

Peart has the ability to take a lick in some very odd time meter and make
it sound easy.  Louie Belson has the ability to play Jazz as if it was a
little portion of his brain.. he doesn't think about what he plays, he just
plays it and it works.  Bissonette can play just about any style out there...
Right after he graduated from NTSU, he was out on the road with Maynard
Furgeuson (ok, so shoot me w/ the spelling.. :)

my point is: Nobody is idolizing Neil Peart.  We are meerly admiring his
playing... *grin*
