[bit.listserv.allmusic] Drummer playing Trumpet..

KRENTZ_MIC@CTSTATEU.BITNET (Micki 'KRAZY' Krentz) (02/07/90)

Tell me about it! I didn't take trumpet yet, that's the last
8 weeks of classes here...but i'm taking trombone right now..

Geez....what a hard instrument! However, i'm doing quite well,
in fact, can play "Old McDonald Had a Farm" and "Pop Goes the Weasel"...
                                                       ha ha ha ...

The most awesome trombonist? Tricky Sam Nanton!!

GWO101@URIACC.BITNET (Michael Lehnertz (Drummer)) (02/07/90)

I hated trombone... You know what used to piss me off the most about
it? It was written in C! How dumb! When you play Bb, it comes out as Bb.
Man, couldn't make it like a trumpet, could they??? I also really hated
French Horn. There are so many damn partials... Everything a horn player
plays is partials! Just wait till you take horn.

AAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHH!
Did somebody say french horn? Ack. That is easily the most frustrating
instrument I have ever seen. Ick. I loved the sound out of it but my
interfinger co-ordination is hideous, and my parents didn't find out about
it until well after they stopped making me take lessons. It's kind of ironic
that I have enough co-ordination to drum but not enough to play the horn.
I had a little better luck with a silvery french-horn thingy with valves like
a trumpet . . . but not much. I think it might have been a flugelhorn. (SP?)

I never had a problem with the valve stuff on french horn, the problem
was all those damn partials! Also, when playing a scale, you started on the
first finger F. (Trumpet players know what I mean). That was your Bb. Then,
after that, it is partial time!!!

Actually, if the truth be known, I think that the fact that I couldn't
(and still can't) sit still for more than about 5 minutes at a time had more
to do with my inability to play the horn than anything else . . .:)
