What a week! For the one or two of you who might have been curious about that song in the Simpson's Christmas show, it was "Santa Baby" by Eartha Kitt. It was a big hit in 1953 (sorry, off by one year) and helped launch her career. That career seems to have slowed down during the Johnson administration, when she started speaking out against the war in Vietnam. That was quite a step for an entertainer in those days, especially a black entertainer. I think she might have launched a European career afterwards. On music and time: My two cents--all perception of art takes place in time. In music, drama and film the pace of that perception is under a great deal of control. Novels, etc., can be controlled more by the reader (or whatever). Still, time is important even with prose--Poe used to say that horror requires short forms, so that the entire story can be experienced in one sitting. First albums: These are making me feel old. I'll rummage through my records and find something from my early collecting days, 25 years ago. If my arthritis lets up . . . :-) Best, Peter.
