I saw Mutabaruka, and did he have a band! But not in the direction of dance, in the other direction. Dance, that seems to be the direction reggae is headed now. From what I heard of the latest Black Uhuru.... Finally, the third I-Three got a hit, after Rita and Judy. Don't remember her name, but the hit ain't reggae. Saw a CD by Jim Pepper for $3.99, so I couldnt pass it because it had Frisell, and Cherry, and the late Colin Walcott. Pepper has some Native American beats and poetry played with jazz, and his tenor sounds a bit like Jan Garbariack. (sorry bout the mispelling) But on one cut what is kind of funny is they have a reggae groove with Colin Walcott playing the skank on sitar!! ( the skank is the backbeat that the guitar or keyboard plays on reggae ) If you can find it try Creation Rebel by Psychotic Jonkanoo. ( or Psychotic Jonkanoo by Creation Rebel, I am not sure which ) Some super slo-mo reggae with the drummer feed through an echoplex. Steel Pulse? Tribute to the Martyrs is good. "Two kinds of ganja, good and very good" says Bob Marley... Jah forever ..... jeffbeer
