[bit.listserv.allmusic] Ayn Rand & 2112

Rando mentioned Ayn Rand and Rush and it got me to thinking...
Correct me if I'm wrong but Ayn Rand was one of the founders of Objectivism,
right? I know that some of the quotes on the 2112 album cover are taken from
one of her books (can't remember which one off hand), and I've sorta always
assumed that Peart's lyrics supported Ayn Rand's book. I've not read her book
(maybe I'll pick it up now), but from what I know of Objectivism, it is a very
practical sort of philosophy, pondering moral questions and trying to answer
them in a practical, objective way. It does not really consider emotion as
a true driving force. If anyone wants to disagree with my statements, then
contact me directly at schew@ei.ecn.purdue.edu if it doesn't have to do
with music.
Now that I think about it, it seems that the lyrics on 2112 would
be almost directly opposed to this kind of objective viewpoint, where emotion
doesn't play a vital role... Is Neil making some sort of statement against
Objectivism here?? Any opinions?
