What is a bodhran?? Is it Indian in origin, like maybe a tabla or something related to that area of percussion? Wow!! The temperature is getting really hot around here, I think it's about time for a Ghandi or Steven Biko to start emerging in our country, ya know a kinder, gentler nation!! Me, I'll just wait for the bombs to start dropping, seems much more likely 8-)! Pat Metheny is a real big name in the Jazz world and is considered one of its premier guitarists, really amazing player, last time I heard he was doing experimentation with guitar synths. Dave, are you looking for new reggae?? With reggae in general you can't go wrong with Bob Marley (I like Ziggy too), early Peter Tosh, Burning Spear, and Steel Pulse. If ya want some more names send me some mail and I'll oblige. Rando, HALLRL@MOREKYPR

Dave, I don't particularly like reggae, but I have to admit that I saw Steel Pulse live and they were pretty good. - The Edster

Domino D., I know el zilcho about dub, I'm pretty much a mainstream reggae person. Where is the main thrust of dub coming from, Great Britain, Jamaica, the States, Europe? If it is from Jamaica, I have a good friend who lived in Jamaica and married a Jamaican, they maybe able to turn me on to some good info about dub, No Problem Mon!! I've often heard of 'ska' and thought it referred to the style of music that the English Beat started out playing, but lately I've heard some people refer to early Marley and the Wailers as being ska. Is anyone knowledgable on what ska really is? Rando, Hail Selassie I

It seemed to me like a fair amount of Costello's *Get Happy!!!* had some ska influence... "Human Touch", "Impostor" and all that. This is a great album, by the way, whichever style it falls under. -- Mark P.S. For those of you that were here last December, I've finally figured out what that strange surrealist thing that was posted anonymously back then was... as several people suspected, it was indeed Robyn Hitchcock -- the liner notes to *Queen Elvis*.

I believe Ska was original reggae (before it was mixed w/ blues)....seems like it was generally a lot of horn line stuff w/ lots of syncopation, but I''ve only heard small bits & pieces about it....we had a prof here that claimed to be from the islands....knew loads about most every kind f music....He played some Ska in class for us one time to help lecture on jazz poetry...sounded great.....that's about all *I* can tell you tho.....
