I hope you still have that asbestos suit handy, Overseer... :) OK, Overseer... I can handle you trying to get in a personal dig at (you-know who... I won't say 'cause *I* don't wanna pull his chain, either), but implying that solo artists are somehow lessened in talent because they don't stay with one band for the length of their career is the single most unintelligent remark I've ever known you to make. Would you group Mr. Joe Satriani in that group of "homeless gods", too? Does he need a REAL band? Of course not... if he tours, he tours with a band, like just about anyone else. If he doesn't use the same musicians time and time again, does that somehow make his music worse, or less legitimate? The same goes for Holdsworth. He records with a band (although I don't know what a REAL band is, so I don't know if you would consider them REAL), and tries to tour with the same musicians that appear on any given album. You might not care about Allan Holdsworth or his music, but it may surprise you to know that many (i.e. a whole *bunch*) of metal guitar players consider him to be one of the best guitarists around. That doesn't mean that you would necessarily like his playing, but unless you hear it, you'll never know, eh? That's the main reason *I* joined this list... to hear other people's opinions about music I *haven't* heard, and to share with those interested my thoughts on music that *they* haven't heard that I have. After all, it's a better way to find new music than subscribing to Rolling Stone and reading those spoon-fed, industry manipulated reviews that they are so fond of printing, wouldn't you agree? You seem too intelligent to think of this list as nothing more than a back-patting forum for people who like only the kinds of music that you do. So, do me a favor and try to widen your scope a bit... you won't like all the music discussed here, but you might be surprised at the things you *will* like, if you'll only take the time to listen to them... I sure was. "n.n."
