[bit.listserv.edtech] HELP re InfoWindows

DENIS@SMCVAX.BITNET (02/02/90)

Jim,

We are in the process of implementing 2 Infowindows
systems. One we receive through an IBM grant program for teacher
training. What I have found out is that most of the courseware
for Infowindows is college-level or for corporate and industrial
training. For your information there are 2 separate marketing
support groups within IBM, K-12 amd ACIS (college and university).
The K-12 group is pushing IBM's AVC products and ACIS is pushing
Infowindows. I have been in various meeting with staff from both
of these groups and they do not coordinate their work, literally
they do not know what each other is doing.

Also, IBM has an InfoWindow Courseware Catalog (G580-0845-01)
which is updated a couple of times per year. The address on the
catalog is:

                Marketing Support
                Department 7EY
                IBM Corporation
                3301 Windy Ridge Parkway
                Marietta, GA 30067

IBM has an 800 line for InfoWindows support and you can
ask to receive their "MultiMedia" newsletter (800) 627-0920.

To the person interested in K-12 programs for the InfoWindow: Perhaps others
on the list would be interested in this info.

I'm currently running an IBM curriculum called PALS designed to teach
functional illiterate adults to read. I've just received a demo videotape
of a program called Earth & Space which also runs on InfoWindow. I saw it
demonstrated at an administrators conference in San Diego last October.
It's especially designed for ESL, 7th & 8th grade, to teach the vocabulary of
science. The publisher is Media Learning Systems, 1492 W. Colorado Blvd.,
Pasadena, CA. 91105. Phone: 1-800-321-5936.

If you call your local IBM rep, I'm sure you can get the names of other
"business partners" who produce software for InfoWindow. I know there is
a drug prevention program aimed at Jr High/High School students, but I
don't know the name of the publisher.
