Statements on "Ethical Computer Use"

**Cross-posting to "ETHICS-L" - also sent to "LIAISON" list.**

I would appreciate your sending me your school's policy on the
subject of "ethical computer use."

Here at Bentley, our Faculty Executive Committee asked our help
in writing a statement which applies to faculty and students.
In part, it reads:

"...computer resources will not be abused, wasted, or
employed in such a way as to interfere with, or cause harm
or damage to another person, institution, or company within
     or outside the Bentley community."

This statement will be amended for next year, including the full text
of the "EDUCOM Code" from the EDUCOM Software Initiative.

We incorporate the policy in our student handbook, under the
broader heading of "academic honesty." That policy continues:

     "Academic dishonesty includes...

...unauthorized access to the computer accounts of others,
modification of system facilities, subversion of the
     restrictions associated with accounts...."

Violations by students are handled under the procedures for the
college's academic honesty system.

I'll compile replies and mail the set to all who want it. Please
indicate on your reply whether you would care for the set.

Please excuse duplicates received under a cross-posting to the liaison
list.

Thanks for your help.
