Has anyone encountered a problem with a copy holding have too many volumes. We have a Chinese Encyclopedia with over 1500 volumes. When you search for it on our OPAC it either causes CICS to loop or generates storage violations until CICS crashes. Notis says the number of volumes is more than was planned for in the implementation of Notis and the search porgram does not check to see if the amount of temporary storage allocated for searches has been exceeded. When we search for the Encyclopedia and it uses up all its work space, it starts writing over pieces of CICS. If anyone else had this problem and if so how did you solve it. Right now the only solution we have is to split the Encyclopedia into smaller groups and make copy holdings for each group. Thanks for the help John Pillans Cal State University, Long Beach

We had that problem with one record. One of the science libraries here had (as a sop to the humanities-oriented people in that college) ordered the Harvard Classics. It was cataloged as one title - "The Harvard Classics". All of the individual titles in the series were then dealt with through copy records, voluminous notes, etc. I deleted that record and had them recatalog it properly. This is not the case for you, but you'll still have to break it up.
