[bit.listserv.notis-l] Acquisitions

Scott Library at York University recently implemented Notis acquistions 4.5.
While at NUGM in Sept 1989, we heard frequent references to the fact that fund
accounting did not work properly and that this would be fixed in 4.6.
We are experiencing an alarmingly large discrepancy in our expenditures/cash
balance figures in Notis compared to those in our Accounting department. I
would appreciate hearing from other sites which have experienced this kind of
discrepancy - is it in the thousands of dollars? tens of thousands? hundreds
of thousands? How have you handled this to complete a fiscal year end?
Please reply to me directly. Thank you.

The University of Illinois at Chicago has been using Fund Acounting
through several versions of the software. The programs have gotten
better with each release (there are some who might argue with me on
that point). With 4.6 we have seen only minor problems, and my
discrepency is down to almost nothing (less than $2500.00 on a budget
of 2.1 million). While I think that any discrepency is a problem, this
figure is acceptable to me, but ONLY since we use NOTIS fund accounting
for internal library reports to let us know the status of our various
funds for internal purposes. The University business office keeps the
official records which we do reconcile with our printed vouchers.

I do however believe that we all deserve a system that handles funds
properly.
