We are having a small problem that I hope someone out there might be able to help us with. We will be making NOTIS accessible to all mainframe terminals on campus as well as through dial-up. We only want these people to be able to access OPAC, so we are forcing them into OPAC by specifying a transaction ID of LUxx in the TCT. But when we do this it is then impossible for that terminal to log off of the CICS region. While this is acceptable for our library terminals which are dedicated to OPAC it is unacceptable for the "outside" terminals which are not. Have other installations encountered this problem? If so, how did you solve it? Are we on the right track or do we need to use another technique? We are an MVS/ESA shop running CICS 2.1.1 Thanks in advance.

We have encountered the problem of users outside the Library being locked into LUxx. Although it is not an entirely acceptable solution, we have defined all public terminals, inside and outside the Library, this way. All documentation for accessing the system informs users that a network quit is required to leave MAGIC (our local name for NOTIS). Many other computer systems on campus allow you to 'log off', but still require the network quit before clearing the connection, so this is not something new to our system. I have received several requests to allow users to log off before breaking the connection, but this would probably require that the terminal in question not be locked into the OPAC. The LUxx transaction would then have to be keyed into the terminal to start the session, instead of presenting the user with the initial screen. This does provide a small measure of security, in that if you sign on as a patron, you are not allowed to do anything BUT LUxx. Betsy Swain, Tech 1 Michigan State University

We have all 7171 ports for our NOTIS system. We used the OPAC command "%" to trigger the sending of the "host initiated line drop" to the 7171 from LC790. This works well for us. Alan Hagyard CTW Library Consortium ahagyard@wesleyan

We have added 1 line after the 'BE' which is under label b010 in LC790BAL to transfer control to a short program which does the disconnect from CICS. If you'd like more details or the program, I'd be glad to help. We are still operating in 4.4 NOTIS; we're MVS, cics 1.7. Lois Lessig Morris Clemson University LLCHS@CLEMSON LLMRR@CLEMSON 803:656-2415
