[bit.listserv.nodmgt-l] converting Netserv to the use of the GR

PASCH@DHDIBM1.BITNET (Berthold Pasch) (03/01/90)

Some answers to some suggestions/questions:

>>Any Objections? Still somebody dissatisfied with the new table format?
>Yes. I would like to see the new GR generate routing tables with all
>the useful human readable information that old GENROUTS produced.

I would like it too. I hope the author of GR can still be convinced.
Maybe what he's waiting for is a specification for the extra informa-
tion to be included.
Another suggestion: why not use the BITNET LINKS file?

>I suspect many, many people were not informed. Announcements like these
>(the change to NETSERV@BITNIC, and the question you just asked to
>NODMGT-L) should be sent to the TECHREP list and possibly the INFOREP
>list as well.

I'm not on TECHREP and not on INFOREP either. So these lists are not
permanently on my mind. I'd expect the NIC to take the necessary actions
and give me green light. With my previous mail I intended to trigger such
an action.

> writing a "cover" EXEC (GRIBM EXEC) to simplify CMS GR executions?

GRIBM EXEC is now available on all Netservs. It's very primitive and
you may want to adapt it to your local requirements.

>I used GENROUTS for VERS9001, VERS9002 and VERS9003... but will it
>still work for VERS90nn in the future?

GENROUTS will work as long as it works. If a new problem is detected
with the old GENROUTS that could only be solved by another change to
GENROUTS, then I expect that this will not be done and we have to refer
you to the new GR program. If you know how how often in the past GENROUTS
had to be adapted because it failed, then you have an estimate for how
long GENROUTS will still be in production.
