Latest satellite imagery continues to show enhanced cumulus under upper trough moving towards the northwest U.S. The very cold air aloft will continue to tap the moist low level onshore flow resulting in locally heavy snows accumulating over favored orographic terrain of the Pacific Northwest and the northern Rockies. Heavy Snow During the past couple of hours satellite imagery has shown persistent cold cloud tops over northwestern Washington. These clouds are associated with on shore convective activity. Surface temperatures have been around freezing and occasional moderate snow is being reported at Quillayute, WA. Snowfall rates of around 2 inches per hour are possible from this continued on shore flow of convective activity with snow. Prime area affected is the Olympic Mountains and area just north of Hoquiam, WA from northern Grays Harbor through much of Clallam and Jefferson counties. Heavy precipitation..rain/snow..extends southward across western Washington and Astoria, or area to about 25 north Newport, OR. This includes Clatsop and Tillamook counties. ..Beckman.. 02/06/90 --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chris Novy - WA9V BITNET: axvsccn@uicvmc Southern Illinois Univ.
