DUTIES:  Serves as the principal consultant on the design, implementation
and maintenance of computer programs and subroutines integrated with
general purpose programs to form informational technology systems.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Applicants must have one year of specialized
experience which is in or directly related to the position and which has
equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities
to successfully perform the duties of the position.  This experience should
demonstrate accomplishment of computer project assignments that required a
wide range of knowledge.  The required specialized experience must have
been equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:  Knowledge of information processing as it
relates to meteorology and climatology, file design, knowledge of FORTRAN
and MS-DOS, knowledge of systems analysis and design techniques.

DUTIES:  The incumbent acts as lead forecaster during the shift and is
responsible for all forecast products and warnings generated using guidance
provided by national centers and the appropriate River Forecast Center.
Originates or monitors the preparation of general weather and aviation
weather forecasts, severe weather warnings, flash flood watches and
warnings, and statements as required.  Performs quality control of
statewide data collection and takes steps to correct deficiencies.
Composes and distributes written summaries of current weather and river
forecasts for statewide data and regional areas for use by news media.
Performs duties associated with the hydrologic program.  Works rotating
shifts.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Candidates must have at least three years of
progressively responsible professional experience in, or directly related
to meteorology.  At least one year must have been comparable in difficulty
to the next lower grade in the Federal service.  Candidates must also have
a BS (or equivalent combination of education and experience) which included
or was supplemented by 20 semester hours of meteorology, including six
semester hours in weather analysis and forecasting, and six semester hours
in dynamic meteorology; differential and integral calculus; and six
semester hours of college physics.

DUTIES:  As Area Manager (AM), the incumbent carries full managerial,
supervisory, and technical responsibility for the provision of weather
warning, forecast, services, and support activities within the area served.
The emphases of the position is the provision of weather warnings and
forecasts to the populace, governmental entities, aviation and other
commercial interests throughout the state/area served.  Incumbent bears
overall responsibility for the ongoing planning, implementation, delivery
and maintenance of these important weather services; and, as the immediate
supervisor for all subordinate office chiefs, bears responsibility for the
timeliness and quality of their products and services and the overall
condition and adequacy of the facilities and equipment.  Incumbent is also
the internal change manager foe planning and implementing overall
Modernization and Associated Restructuring of the NWS, in the service area,
during the 1990's.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:  Same as the above position (CASC/NWS90-047) plus
applicants must have 3 years of professional meteorological experience, one
year which must have been at a level of comparable difficulty to the GS-14
level in the Federal service.
