I don't know that it'd be all that libelous... It had the factory
mags and header, was faster than the weight (3000 lb on the
Donneybrooke scale) and power (factory said 125 bhp from 2 litres)
would suggest. I really bought the wrong car, since I was an
autocross freak. I should have bought a Spridget. I finally traded
the '66 2000TC with gearchange problems even-up for a '68 SAAB 96 in
good shape. It still was a fine car, comfortable, tight and usable
except in deep snow. phile@pwcs.stpaul.gov

That's funny I always liked my 2000 TC. My only recurring problem on
the car was a choke cable that somehow got electrified and melted it's
jacket (happened 3 times).

Now Land Rovers, there is my love/hate relationship, my first was a 48
Series I. I must be swinging towards the love side as I am getting ready
to start restoring a `67 109 this spring (I am eagerly awaiting the follow-
up 3.5 litre V8 info).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
 I bought a Rover 2000SC for $600 just after my 18th birthday.
The car looked good and it had leather seats, but it needed a "tuneup".
 Well......
Six months and another $600 later
 Valve job
 All new hydraulics
 Rebuilt differential
 Clutch
 Rebuilt carb
 Rebuilt generator
 Rebuilt starter
 Rebuilt distributor
 Etc.

Finally, the car was running as well as it looked. I was even driving
it to school on a regular basis. And then it happened...
 A dark and stormy night
Going about 25 mph up a windy, mud splattered road
When out of the darkness, it appeared!
The BIGGEST moving van you ever saw
Coming down the MIDDLE of the road
Hit the brakes and pull off the road
 Right into a Redwood tree.
Now, the car did everything it was supposed to do under
these circumstances. (The Rover was touted as a "safety" car)
The engine went under, the windscreen popped out, and all
that nice aluminum paneling buckled.
The redwood tree was mildly bothered.
The moving van had slowed down, as did the station wagon behind it.
As I unwrapped myself from around the steering wheel, they both
decided that it was better to take off, and did so.
The police report, based on the tire marks of myself and the van,
said basically that they were at fault, but as I had other things
to do than take down any markings, that was that.
A few months of sitting in my parent's driveway, and it was towed
away.
I swore off cars for about 18 months, until a fellow student offerred
me his '66 Mustang 2+2 for $375, and I was hooked again.
Now, in retrospect, the Rover was a fine car. It handled well, was
very comfortable to drive, The leather interior was great, and from
what I saw in Ireland a couple of years ago, the car lasts forever
in a salty environment.
And, for what it's worth, I saw an '80 Rover 3500 a few months back,
and was very tempted......
