[list.british-cars] Ways you British Car catches fire.

Is this why the Product-of-the-Month hype in the last "Your Classic" was
a selection of under-bonnet fire extinguishers?

Anybody have a source for these in the US? After my first (& inshallah, last)
engine fire, I'd be interested in something like this.

-> First it was the cardboard doohickey that goes from the scuttle
->past the right front wheel. This happened the day I bought the car,
->and continued until there wasn't any cardboard left.

Sounds like my TR-6. Somewhere in the streets of Troy, N.Y. I picked
up a crumpled newspaper that wedged itself inbetween the two downpipes of
the exhaust right behind the starter. They caught fire. This set the pressboard
transmission cover on fire, which in turn set the carpet in the passenger
footwell on fire. I have carried a fire extinguisher in the car ever since....
And replaced the trans cover with a fibreglass one. Was not fun.

-> Keep a fire extinguisher handy.

At least one. I keep two, just like in the road race car. They strap
to the roll bar very nicely. I just worry about someone kicking them off
when I have the car parked somewhere...

-> Don't panic if you get a fire.

Very important. More damage is caused by panic than you would think.
But if you're a naturaly panicy person, it's tough to get over. Some of the
brightest people I know come completly unglued in emergencies. The best defense
is good preparation.
