[Note - all votes are to be sent to either Bob Mosley or Mike Shappe. Do *not* send me votes, as I will ignore them. Replying to this article ("R" or "r") should go to the correct place - ed.] ---------------- CALL FOR VOTES rec.arts.sf-creative, rec.arts.sf-creative.d Whereas the members of USENET have discussed and agreed upon a charter, the call is hereby sent out for votes on the following questions: 1) Do you approve of the charter for, and therefore the creation of, the newsgroup rec.arts.sf-creative? 2) Do you approve of the charter for, and therefore the creation of, the newsgroup rec.arts.sf-creative.d? Please answer both questions. Should question 2) fail, the charter for rec.arts.sf-creative provides for an alternative means of discussion. Should question 1) fail, neither group will be created. Please MAIL your votes to Bob Mosley III (mosley@peyote.cactus.org). Mr. Mosley will be in charge of all things vote-like, including the tallying and the acknowledging of ballots. Each question will, of course, be tallied separately. If you cannot reach Bob, then MAIL votes to Mike Shappe (mshappe@heights.cit.cornell.edu, mshappe%biar.uucp@wrath.cs.cornell.edu, cornell!biar!mshappe, UT6Y@CORNELLA{.bitnet}), and they will be forwarded untouched to Bob. If you find that ALL of these addresses are "bouncing" the mail back to you undelivered please post said problem to news.groups, and Bob or I will attempt to hack a correct path to you. We are not supposed to accept publically posted votes unless we absolutely 100% have to because no mail path is working--highly improbable if you can post and it reaches us (there are very few places in the universe where you can't find SOME E-Mail path that will work if News works). IT IS THEREFORE VITAL THAT YOU DO NOT PUBLICALLY POST YOUR VOTE UNLESS ALL OTHER RECOURSE HAS FAILED! The vote will last for 21 days, from 26 May to 16 June. Reminder calls and mass acknowledgements will be posted weekly to news.groups, news.announce.newgroups, rec.arts.startrek, rec.arts.drwho, and rec.arts.sf-lovers. The final tally will be posted no later than 17 June. If Question 1) or both questions pass, there will then be a five (5) day waiting period, after which, barring serious uproar/objection to the voting itself, the NEWGROUP for the appropriate group(s) will be sent by Mike Shappe (mshappe@heights.cit.cornell.edu) from Heights. [Note - only the final results will be posted in r.a.s.i. - ed.] The final charters for both groups follow the CTRL-L. These charters are not ammendable at this time, as per the USENET guidelines. ^L CHARTER (Rev Five/Release): Rec.Arts.SF-Creative STATEMENT OF PURPOSE -------------------- The group rec.arts.sf-creative shall exist for the the posting of original, reader-created works of or about science-fiction and to provide fans of such works with free access to them. TYPE OF GROUP ------------- Moderated. The initial candidate for moderator is Mike Shappe (mshappe@heights.cit.cornell.edu). {Note: The initial moderation address will probably be cornell!biar!mshappe. I am currently working on setting up my own UUCP node, "amnesia", which will, among other things, allow me to set up aliases for the newsgroup and not have to worry about someone else kvetching about my using up their disk space :-) The changeover will probably happen in late August or September) DEFINITIONS ----------- APPROPRIATE MATERIAL This group shall exist for the posting of ORIGINAL WORKS of or about science fiction ORIGINAL WORKS This phrase includes but is not limited to: Original SF stories; Original parodies of works of SF; Original graphics of SF characters, ships, or technology; Original reports on fictional technology (NOT random comments). What is actually acceptable will be determined by a set of group-modifiable guidelines. Modifications to the guidelines will require Yes - No => 50 The classes of work mentioned in the first paragraph of this section will not be modifiable. ORIGINAL For our purposes, the term "original" refers only to the work itself. Any characters used in the work need not be original. Such articles should include a statement to the fact that the characters are being used without permission (unless, of course, they are :-) An original work shall be one which is the creation of the poster or someone for whom s/he is posting, and must not have been previously posted on this group. THE MODERATOR ------------- A moderator in any group serves to insure that entries to the group meet the criteria of the charter and the guidelines. The moderator shall post an initial set of guidelines based on this charter, and repost said guidelines on a monthly basis. A moderator has final say as to whether or not an article is posted. In this group specifially: The moderator shall be expected to post those articles which meet the charter and guidelines. Otherwise, discussion will be moderated using a "letters column" digest format. Submitted respectfully for approval Michael Scott Shappe Based on the work of Ryan D.
