Our problem seems to have been settled for us. Gene Spafford has posted his final word on the matter--he considers the vote invalid and will not list any newsgroup created by it in his List of Groups. No matter what anyone thinks of the this declaration, the fact remains that Gene's list is considered authoratative, and that many Site Admins will not create a group that does not appear on the list. Furthermore, both Gene and Eliot Lear have agreed that the vote should merely be nullified, not declared failed, and that the vote can be re-called in September. At least one person has said that I should not be the one making the decision--that the decision should be made by more net.deity like people. Those who felt this way will be happy to know that what follows has the approval of Messers. Spafford and Lear. The vote for Rec.arts.Science-Fiction.Creative and its Discussion Group is hereby declared NULL and VOID. Those interested in the results anyway may ask me. A new Call For Discussion and vote will take place in September. This actually has some advantages to it, because, among other things, it means that the "inner circle" of people who were hot for this proposal can hammer on the charter a little bit more to take into account some of the objections raised since the end of the first discussion. I may be starting up a mailing list to handle this (rather than disturb the net for the next three months with it), so stay tuned. I would like to thank Eliot and Gene for helping me get the guideline stuff straight. I would also like to thank Omega Mosley for his help in counting the vote, regardless of the results. I would also like to thank everyone who has volunteered to count the votes next time. I think the best idea would be to have someone who is an Internet sysadmin count it. At least one such person has already volunteered, and unless I hear any other such person speak up, he'll probably get the (dubious) honour.
