[Note - this is an unusual article, so I feel compelled to make a couple of ] [ comments. I didn't post this immediately upon receiving it, so some ] [ of the information is out of date. I'll elaborate on certain points ] [ in my Timecon summary, due out Friday. ] [ ] [ This article's author asked me to post it anonymously. I know the ] [ article's author and consider this person to be reliable. Please do ] [ not ask me to forward information to the author. I won't do it - ed. ] I talked to a friend of mine on the TNG staff, who gave me a couple tidbits of information suitable for posting to the net: they are considering adding a young female crewmember to the show, as a friend for Data. This will, of course, NOT be Shelby. This is not a firm decision yet. They are starting production on the third episode of the season soon. The script for the season opener is apparently very good, as good as TBOBW. It was written by Michael Piller, the same person who wrote TBOBW and "Q Who," and who my friend claimed has been largely responsible (as co-executive producer) for TNG's steadily increasing quality. The opener is directed by Cliff Bole, who directed the finale. Look for more of O'Brien in the fourth season. (They still haven't given him a first name, though.) My friend also expressed some amazement about how quickly the net gets inside info (when I mentioned something I'd seen on the net a week or so ago, my friend said, "How'd they know that? I only started working on that two days ago!") Many of the net rumors I mentioned were bogus, and some others were true. I passed on a couple of the more interesting (to me) comments from rec.arts.startrek. I'm asking Jim to post this anonymously so I'm not flooded with requests for more information. Please don't flood him with requests for my address, either. :) -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by Jim Griffith - the official scapegoat for r.a.s.i.
