The following clipping was taken from page 7 of the Aug/Sept 1990 issue (#75)
of "STAR TREK: The Official Fan Club" magazine, PO Box 111000, Aurora, CO

Star Trek VI Update

Paramount's plans for a Star Trek VI are moving forward. Two writers have
been hired to work on a story which, if all goes as planned, would start
shooting late this year. Plans are now to use the original crew in the
picture, which will most likely NOT (sic) focus on their days at Starfleet
Academy, as had been rumored.

End clipping.

On the same page of the same issue, Leonard Nimoy was quoted in an interview
with Dan Madsen titled "Leonard Nimoy: New Projects/New Possibilities" as
saying the following:

" ... there are people who want [Star Trek VI] to happen ... the actors want
it to happen ... my belief is Paramount would like it to happen as well ...
I'm hearing from some of those people who want to see another Star Trek
film. I would like to see it happen and I would like to be helpful in any
  way I can!"

Hope you find this interesting and informative.

[Note - this fits with what I heard at TIMECON. Essentially, the major point
of contention preventing Nimoy from directing is the schedule that
	Paramount has proposed - ed.]
