[rec.arts.startrek.info] Star Trek VI on hold

The following is excerpted from The Grapevine, From Marilyn Beck and
Stacy Janel Smith in Hollywood, 8 Oct 1990, as it appeared in the
San Jose Mercury News.

`Star Trek VI' still far from take-off

Looks like ``Star Trek VI'' could be stalled on the launching
pad. It -- like all other projects at Paramount -- will have
to await review by David Kirkpatrick, who's taken over the
reins from Sid Ganis as president of the studio's motion
picture group. But even if that weren't the case
<< note: at this point, any following line(s) was missing >>

Though Paramount executives said months ago that the studio
was charging ahead with the sixth installment of the big-screen
series, William Shatner now reports there's still no completed
script and that no one has any idea when ``Trek VI'' will roll.

Shatner says he'll report for duty as Admiral [sic] Kirk
whenever he is eventually called, but adds that neither he nor
	Leonard Nimoy will direct ``VI.''

While he waits to beam aboard the Starship Enterprise, Shatner
plans to juggle hosting duties on ``Rescue 911'' with writing
chores. ``Teklords,'' the follow-up to his ``Tekwar'' Putnam
tome, is due on the stands this winter and he reveals the
publisher ``has contracted me to do a third novel featuring
the Jake Cardigan character.'' Also in the literary works
for Shatner is ``Believe,'' now in the process of being edited
at Putnam. He collaborated with Michael Tobias on the tome he
describes as ``a book about the drama of spiritualism.''
