[rec.arts.startrek.info] News from Starbase Indy

I attended Starbase Indy: The Third Generation in Indianapolis this
weekend. The Guests were Walter Koenig, Robin Curtis, Eric Menyuk, and Guy
Vardamann. (Guy is an extra and a photo double, and until recently was
Wil Wheaton's stand-in.) SPOILERS about STVI and upcoming TNG episodes follow:

The information that follows about TNG is from Guy, and the info about
STVI is from both Guy and Walter, with the exception of the info about
Eric and Robin. You get one more chance to bail out now.

OK, here it is. First the info on Star Trek VI. Right now it is
subtitled "The Infinite Voyage." It's based on a story idea by Leonard Nimoy,
with a lot of the polishing done by Nicholas Meyer. Nicholas Meyer will
direct. It will definitely be the last movie, and it will be written as such,
although probably none of the regulars will die. It will be the last because
if it flops, Paramount DEFINITELY won't put up the money for STVII, and if it's
good, they want to go out with a bang. Walter Koenig did submit a script for
STVI which killed off "5 to 7" of the regulars, but it was rejected by Gene.
The budget for STVI is $45 million. Filming is scheduled to start April 1,
and it will probably be released around Christmas 1991, although possibly as
early as Thanksgiving. The action will take place mainly on the Enterprise,
and Klingons will be heavily featured. It's written pretty much as a self-
contained story.

Robin said she wouldn't put any money on her being in STVI, but if
she was, she said, she'd be the last to know. She has auditioned for various
parts in TNG, most notably K'Ehlyr (sp?), but of course did not get any, and
she now refuses to audition for Star Trek parts; if they want her, they
should offer her a part and not just an audition, she said.

Upcoming TNG episodes: "The Loss," in which Troi loses her empathic
abilities; "Data's Day:" Data records a day in his life for Bruce Maddox (the
guy who wanted to research him in "The Measure of a Man;" this episode also
apparently involves a female Vulcan ambassador, T'Pal (sp?), on a very secret
mission to the Romulans, although I wasn't quite sure whether that was a
separate episode; I think it was part of "Data's Day," though; "The Wounded,"
in which the Federation is carrying on negotiations with a new race, the
Cardacians (sp?); Guy says that while this is the first time we've seen this
race, it won't be the last... "Devil's Due," in which a creature comes on the
Enterprise (in female form) claiming to be the devil; they apparently have Data
set up as sort of a judge to determine whether she really is the devil or not.
Those are the episodes which are finished filming so far. There are currently
no plans to have Q on again. If they get a good script with Q, they'll use it,
but they won't make a Q episode just for the sake of having Q on there. The
same goes for the Traveler.

_Moontrap II: The Pyramids of Mars_ begins filming in December. Walter
said contract negotiations are still going on, but he's pretty sure he'll be in
it. For those of you who don't know, _Moontrap_ was a science-fiction/thriller
starring Koenig released ONLY ON VIDEOTAPE in 1988. It did pretty well for
a video-only movie. Moontrap II, however, will be released in the theaters.
