Major spoilers below. Proceed at your own risk! LAST CHANCE! All info comes from Richard Arnold's statements at Creation in NYC this past weekend (11/23/90) TNG Season 4 News! Upcoming stories: - The Loss - Troi loses her empathic abilities. - Data's Day - Data has been keeping a diary of his interactions with humans. This was something he agreed to do to help Bruce Maddox (from "Measure of a Man"). The main plot is a day in Data's off-duty life. Also, Picard helps a Vulcan ambassador with a mission across The Neutral Zone. We will be treated to many new sets including a dance area, and a wedding onboard. The bride is a new recurring character. Arnold wouldn't name the groom, but he IS a recurring character. (My money is on O'Brien!) Data is required to give away the bride, and thus must learn to dance. Crusher teaches him. - The Wounded - A new alien race is introduced as an insane Fed captain tries to reignite a war with the aliens. - Devil's Due - This was written for the revival of Trek in the 1970s, a.k.a. Star Trek II. That project became the first movie instead. Now, some of the scripts are being used on TNG. ("The Child" was the first.) Anyway, a peaceful planet is visited by "The Devil" who had 1000 years previously BROUGHT prosperity to the planet. Now SHE wants the souls of the inhabitants. The plot was described as "The Devil and Daniel Webster." Picard for the defense, with Data as judge. To prove that the woman is the devil, she transforms into a Klingon creature that was said to eat the souls of cowards. (Klingons have no "devil," as stated in TOS "Day of the Dove.") Worf's reaction is said to be "hair- raising!" Other items: - O'Brien replaces Wes as a "lead" character. - Spock may return in Season 5, using the oft-mentioned "Return to Forever" script. - They are looking for scripts (GOOD ones) to bring back Barclay, Lwaxana, Q, and Selar. Also, Denise Crosby wants back, permanently, but they can't find a way to do it believably. - TNG will run for 6 seasons before any THOUGHT is given to a TNG film. That would place it Fall 1994 at the earliest. - After ST VI, there would be the POSSIBILITY of TOS characters appearing, since the film series would be once and for all over. STAR TREK VI NEWS! - Nicholas Meyer will write and direct - Ralph Winter MAY produce - A budget is being created - ILM is very interested in doing the effects. - Planned start is in April, with a Thanksgiving 1991 release. - There is a 1st draft, but it's being rewritten. Arnold wouldn't give any details, and DeForrest Kelley (also at the con) hadn't seen it yet. - All rumors about Spock getting married, Kirk becoming a monk, and mass deaths are FALSE. - It will NOT be a prequel in any way. -- "The needs of the many... -David Stumme outweigh...the needs of the few." das1417@ritvax.bitnet "Or the one." das1417@ultb.isc.rit.edu -- Spock & Kirk (in STII: TWOK) Grenadier @ QuantumLink -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by Jim "The Big Dweeb" Griffith - the official scapegoat for r.a.s.i.
