The following was found in the People section of the San Jose Mercury News. (I meant to write down the date, but neglected to. It is a week or so old.) At the bottom of the article it says `Compiled from Mercury News wire services' and the accompanying picture is from the Associated Press. The article is accompanied by a picture showing a smiling Burton holding up a plaque with a star on it (not the star that's put into the sidewalk) and is captioned `Burton is officially a star now.' The article reads as follows: --------------- LeVar Burton's pot of gold: `Reading Rainbow' for kids LeVar Burton has starred in ``Roots,'' ``Star Trek: The Next Generation'' and numerous films but says hosting PBS-TV's ``Reading Rainbow'' has been the most satisfying role of his career. Burton, 33, looked back on his television and film various roles Thursday as he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He has hosted ``Reading Rainbow,'' which encourages children to read, since its inception in 1983. ``I think that (show) has had the most impact on an audience that really needs it,'' said Burton, who made his professional debut 13 years ago as the rebellious slave Kunta Kinte in the television miniseries ``Roots.'' Television audiences also know Burton as the blind Lt. Geordi LaForge on the popular syndicated series ``Star Trek: The Next Generation.'' Burton said receiving a star on the famous Walk of Fame was a humbling experience. ``I thought that if, just if, I was really fortunate, maybe when I was 50 I would get one,'' he said. ``But not now, not at this point in my life. I'm just overwhelmed.'' --------------- David B.
