Welcome to rec.arts.startrek.info! The purpose of this group is to provide an uncluttered resource of information and news pertaining to Star Trek. Rec.arts.startrek.info is a moderated newsgroup, which means that all articles must be submitted to the moderator for approval before they will be posted. Articles appearing in this newsgroup generally fall into one of five categories : 1) Official press releases, episode credits, and stations listing (generally posted by Mike "Vidiot" Brown, Roger Noe, and Chris Wayne, respectively) 2) Convention reports - summaries of Q&A sessions with guest speakers or Richard Arnold and news of upcoming conventions. 3) Star Trek offers from one-time or otherwise unusual sources (including, for example, the Citibank Star Trek Visa and the Star Trek V Marshmallow Dispenser, but not including ads from companies such as Lincoln Enterprises). 4) Factual articles from newspapers, magazines, or other forms of media (as compared to articles expressing opinions, such as movie reviews). 5) First- or second-hand information, such as reliable information on upcoming episodes or movies, "I just heard this from Mike Okuda", etc. The key word here is "reliable"... These are very loose categories - if I think a submission contains relatively accurate, potentially interesting information, I will accept it. Item #3 causes the most trouble. I will accept solicitations from one-time or otherwise unusual sources - the Star Trek Visa, the STV Marshmallow dispenser, the replicas from the Franklin Mint, etc. I will *not* accept articles from clubs soliciting membership or from commercial groups such as Lincoln Enterprises. The former barely qualify as "news", as they are unusual offers. The latter are not. If you have comments, criticisms, suggestions, requests for archive information, etc., send mail to "trek-info-request@dweeb.fx.com". All articles appearing in r.a.s.i are available via anonymous FTP. The articles are archived on scam.berkeley.edu (128.32.138.1) in the directory misc/info. The file README in that directory explains what is available. -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edited by Jim "The Big Dweeb" Griffith - the official scapegoat for r.a.s.i.
